Contra Costa Animal Services offers free spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and microchips to local trappers and citizens who bring stray and feral cats and kittens (community cats) to CCAS that will later be returned to the community they came from. CCAS’ Community Cat Program is focused on empowering residents to address pet overpopulation in their neighborhoods, while also ensuring the public health and safety of the people and animals in their community.
We will also provide traps to help community members trap stray and feral cats and kittens in their community to be delivered to CCAS so that they can be altered.

A feral cat is not socialized to people and survives on its own outdoors, while a stray cat has been socialized at some point but has either lost or left its indoor home. The following resources will provide you with helpful information and guidance about how to coexist with the outdoor cats in your community.
